The name 'loukaniko' is derived from ancient Roman cuisine's lucanica[2][1] (from Lucania region of Southern Italy) and has been used in Greece since at least the 4th century.[3]

Лукáнико (греч. λουκάνικο) — традиционная греческая свиная колбаса, приправленная апельсиновой цедрой, семенами фенхеля и иногда прокопчённая над ароматической древесиной. Луканико также часто приправляют зеленью, в особенности луком-пореем[1]. В колбасу в основном добавляют свинину, хотя для приготовления подойдёт любое мясо.
