Early life

Firth was born in Hackney, a district of East London, in April 1984. Son of a teacher and professor, he worked in the tech industry for 12 years after leaving Sixth Form, for various companies including Blacks, Arcadia Group and Drum&BassArena.

Theasby's roots lie in Sheffield. Born in the Yorkshire city in August 1984, he is the son of a nurse and a teacher. He worked in the fashion industry after leaving school, choosing not to attend university.

Firth and Theasby's relationship began at the age of 11 when the pair attended High Storrs School in Sheffield.[8][9]

Career

Early career

Firth and Theasby's friendship saw the duo keep in close contact beyond their time at High Storrs School. In 2014, the pair came together to watch the documentary Cowspiracy,[10] which made them realise the impact that animal agriculture had on the environment.[11][12] The documentary left a lasting impression on the pair, with Firth explaining that they "both decided to go vegan immediately afterwards".[11]

2016-2022 - BOSH!

In 2016, Firth and Theasby launched BOSH.TV,[4] a YouTube channel exclusively publishing vegan recipe content. The name BOSH! was chosen because it "sound[ed] fast and fun and the very opposite of fussy",[13] a mantra they took into their video production style. The duo adopted a camera style similar to that of other YouTube food brands like Tasty, with the hope that the vegan nature of their content would help set them apart. BOSH's initial success came in the form of a 'healthy sushi cake' video, which hit 3.5m views on Facebook,[14] and a viral 'watermelon Jagerbomb' video which has racked up 20 million views across all platforms.[15]

In 2018, BOSH! released their first vegan cookbook, which outlined classic recipes turned plant-based.[16][17] The cookbook, which saw the duo dubbed 'the vegan Jamie Olivers' by The Times,[18] has risen to become the UK's best-selling vegan cookbook of all time,[19] selling over a million copies.[20] BOSH!'s success in the literary space has continued to grow, with a further five vegan cookbooks released between 2019 and 2021. The duo's success in this space has seem them win awards from the PETA Vegan Food Awards,[21] the British Book Awards[22] and more.

Alongside their range of cookbooks, Firth and Theasby brought BOSH! to British television screens in 2020 with their ITV1 show Living on the Veg.[5] The 10-part series[23] was ITV's first vegan cooking programme,[24] and featured a series of recipes cooked by Firth and Theasby and a guest who talks about food and their work.[23]

BOSH! have regularly appeared in the media on a global level, being seen on Good Morning Britain,[25] This Morning,[26][27] BBC Breakfast,[28] Sunday Brunch,[29] The Today Show[30][31] and more. The duo has featured with presenters Claudia Winkleman,[32] Michael Ball[33] and Jo Whiley[34] on BBC Radio 2 in the UK.

As of August 2022, BOSH! have had 2.5 billion views across their video content and have a combined social media following of over 3.1 million people.[35]

BOSH! Products

BOSH! launched a range of plant-based products into supermarkets nationwide across the UK.[36][37] The range of products includes cake mixes, savoury mixes, store cupboard products, sweet treats and ready meals, with the intention of encouraging individuals to adopt the vegan diet.[38]

As well as being stocked in all major UK supermarkets, BOSH! products are all available in Costa Coffee shops UK-wide.[39][40][41][42]
